Whilst we currently don't actually employ anyone, as we're still in a growth phase, we do offer voluntary positions with exceptional training and a national, possibly international presence for those taking part.

This is the Number one preferred role within AIR News. Generally we like people to cover at least one short shift a week, usually across four bulletins so you get consistent practice at this role.

Depending upon the shift you could be producing just News, just Sport or both at any time.

There are a number of people involved with us that just want to be reporters. It could be that you specialise, producing stories regularly on Federal Politics, on Police issues, or Emergency issues.

It's really up to you how little or how much you want to contribute.

If you're covering major Australian stories of International significance then we may ask you to contribute to our overseas bureau Feature Story News, which could lead to a role at an International location further along in your career.

There are two types of editor, Text editors who will put the stories together so they work for our newsreaders, or audio editors, who make the reporters work stand out from the crowd.

Text editors really need to make the stories come alive on radio, without changing the meaning of the stories, so there's no LEGAL issues. Generally text editors have a good knowledge of the English language and it's minutae.

Audio editing is another ball game altogether and requires a certain mind to be successful.

We use Cool Edit Pro and Adobe Audition generally although some of our people are quite comfortable with Audacity the free audio editor from Sourceforge.

REQUIREMENTS:

Broadband Internet, a PC with enough grunt to handle audio editing, Broadcast quality microphone, mixer or pre-amp, Editing Software.
